The brief


Sunlight are the edge virtualization experts building the world’s fastest platform, and it turns out they have a fantastic problem: When explained using metrics, their product is so effective that it runs the risk of sounding way too good to be true.

We were hired to create an animated marketing film to explain their edge (and cloud) platform’s unique functionality without overloading the viewer with technical jargon or hard-to-grasp statistics.


Our solution


Reading between the numbers

With Sunlight’s product metrics being so brilliant that they verge on unbelievable, it was clear from an early stage that this film should move away from the numbers and focus on what makes them meaningful: the story. Why is there a need? Why don’t existing products meet it? And how does Sunlight change that? Asking these questions allowed us to create a compelling case for their product in 90 seconds flat, without getting bogged down in the detail.

Getting to grips with edge and cloud technology

Our in-depth process meant working closely with the team at Sunlight to understand their technology, their customers, and their use cases. Gaining a foundational understanding of Sunlight’s technology versus existing edge and cloud solutions allowed us to eliminate much of the jargon, giving the viewer a meaningful top-line overview whether they’re an expert or not.

Visualising the invisible

Any animation team will tell you that when ‘data’ is the core subject of a film, it can be tricky to visualise it in new and interesting ways throughout the piece.

We looked to Sunlight’s existing brand to find a visual ‘hook’ to help tell the story. Taking our cue from their brand guidelines and existing materials we proposed an abstract film, taking place in a world of 3D geometry, shapes, and typography.

We relish the chance to take an existing brand and develop it into new, previously unseen animated assets, all while staying true to brand guidelines. And that’s exactly what we did.

Result


The final result is a high quality product explainer animation which sits atop Sunlight’s website, ready to give customers a spot on overview of the product before persuading them to dig into the metrics.

The film was also delivered for organic social media use and we delivered subtitles for maximum watchability on any platform. We also delivered multiple versions of the film at no extra cost, both with the CTA to visit the website at the end , and without (for those already viewing on the website).

The film has just been released and initial feedback has been fantastic. Check back in a couple of weeks for detailed results (July 2021).
